How it works

Step 1

Enter both URLs

Your page and the competitor page you're losing to — ideally targeting the same query.

Step 2

We fetch both at once

Both pages load in parallel and get the identical signal extraction — no side gets a different ruler.

Step 3

Signal-by-signal verdict

12 on-page signals compared head to head, with the winner marked on each row.

Step 4

Close the gaps

Every row they win is a concrete, fixable difference — work the list from the top.

Why it matters

When a competitor outranks you, on-page gaps are the part you can fix this week.

Rankings come from a mix of authority, links, and on-page quality. You can't change your backlink profile by Friday — but missing schema, a thin word count, broken heading structure, and absent alt text are all fixable in an afternoon. Comparing the same signals on both pages turns 'they outrank us' from a mystery into a checklist.

AI engines compare pages on structure and extractability, not just authority.

When an AI engine picks a source to cite, it favors pages it can parse cleanly: clear headings, structured data that declares what the page is, substantive text, and answer-shaped content. A smaller site with cleaner structure regularly gets cited over a bigger one with a messy page — which makes these signals one of the few arenas where you can beat a stronger domain head-on.

Measuring against a real competitor beats measuring against a generic checklist.

An audit tells you what's imperfect; a comparison tells you what's losing. If you both skip FAQ schema, it's not why they're ahead — but if they have 2,400 words of structured content against your 600, that gap is probably doing real work. Benchmarking against the page that actually beats you puts your effort where the difference is.

Frequently asked

What exactly does this tool compare?

Twelve on-page signals, identically extracted from both pages: title tag length, meta description length, heading structure (H1/H2), word count, structured data types, FAQ schema, Open Graph completeness, canonical tag, image alt coverage, text-to-HTML ratio, internal links, and whether an llms.txt file exists at the site root.

Why only on-page signals — what about backlinks and domain authority?

Because off-page signals aren't visible from the page itself — backlink and authority data lives in third-party indexes and isn't part of what either page actually serves. On-page signals are also the ones you fully control: if a competitor beats you on authority AND on-page quality, the on-page half is the part you can close this week.

What should I do about the rows I'm losing?

Work top-down by impact: content depth and heading structure first (they change what engines can extract), then structured data and FAQ schema (they change how engines classify and cite you), then metadata lengths, alt coverage, and llms.txt. Each losing row is a concrete edit — most take minutes, not sprints.

Does schema really affect whether AI engines cite a page?

Yes. JSON-LD tells engines what a page is — an article, a product, a FAQ — without inference, and FAQ schema in particular mirrors the question-answer shape AI engines extract from. When two pages cover the same topic, the one that declares its structure is easier to retrieve, classify, and quote accurately.

I fixed my losing signals — how do I verify it worked?

Run the same comparison again right after deploying — the tool fetches both pages live, so your fixes show up immediately. Then give engines time to recrawl: ranking and citation effects follow days to weeks behind the fix, so re-check the comparison and your actual visibility a few weeks later.

Can I compare two pages that aren't mine?

Yes — any two public URLs work. Comparing the top two results for a query you're targeting is a fast way to see what the winners have in common before you write your own page.
