Ahrefs Brand Radar review (2026): pricing, coverage, alternatives
Ahrefs' AI visibility add-on has the biggest retroactive prompt index in the category. It is also measurement-only, refreshes chatbot data monthly, and its pricing stacks. The honest picture.
By Judy Zhou, Founder, Meev
The short version
Brand Radar is Ahrefs' AI visibility add-on: a 400M+ search-backed prompt index showing how any brand appears across seven AI surfaces, including Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, and Grok, with instant retroactive lookups and zero setup. It costs $199/mo per AI index (or $699/mo for all of them) on top of a base Ahrefs plan; chatbot indexes refresh only once a month unless you buy custom prompt checks; and it measures visibility without an optimization or content loop. Existing Ahrefs customers get the most from it.

What is Ahrefs Brand Radar?
Brand Radar is Ahrefs' answer to AI search, pitched as make AI recommend your brand. Rather than running prompts you configure, it maintains a giant index: Ahrefs extracts question prompts from its keyword database (real Google search demand, not synthetic lists), runs them across AI platforms, and lets you look up any brand or domain instantly, with history, and with no tracking setup or cold start. The index claims 400M+ prompts and grows monthly.
Launched in beta in March 2025 and out of beta that June, it has expanded fast: seven AI surfaces, entity and topic grouping, citation reports with bot-visit and AI-traffic columns, a custom prompt tracking layer (January 2026) for scheduled live runs, and beta indexes for YouTube, TikTok, and Reddit. It sits inside the familiar Ahrefs interface alongside branded search demand and web mention tracking.
What Ahrefs Brand Radar does
Search-backed prompt index
400M+ prompts derived from real Google search demand. Look up any brand retroactively with zero setup; the structural differentiator no prompt-tracking startup can replicate.
Seven AI surfaces
Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Grok. Claude is available only via custom prompts (at 8 checks per query); DeepSeek and Meta AI are absent.
Custom AI prompt tracking
Define your own prompts with platform, location, and cadence from daily to monthly, billed per check. Packages from $50/mo (2,500 checks) to $250/mo (25,000).
Ahrefs ecosystem
Site Explorer-style reports, topic grouping via Keywords Explorer, bot visits and AI traffic columns, API endpoints, and a Looker Studio connector.
Ahrefs Brand Radar pricing
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs base plan (required) | $29 to $1,499/mo | Starter through Enterprise. Brand Radar rides on top of a paid Ahrefs plan. |
| Brand Radar, single AI index | $199/mo | One AI surface index, such as the AI Overviews + AI Mode bundle or ChatGPT. |
| Brand Radar, all indexes | $699/mo | Every AI index, plus 2,500 custom prompt checks per month. |
| Custom prompt packages | $50 to $250/mo | 2,500 to 25,000 checks; 1 check = 1 prompt x 1 LLM x 1 location. |
Pricing verified July 19, 2026 against ahrefs.com/pricing and the Ahrefs Help Center (USD; the product page geo-serves EUR in Europe). Third-party estimates put a typical all-in cost for full coverage between roughly $830 and $1,150 per month once a base plan and prompt checks are included. Source
How Brand Radar collects its data
Understanding the collection model explains both the magic and the limits. Brand Radar is index-based: Ahrefs extracts question-style prompts (largely People Also Ask questions) from its keyword database, runs them through each AI platform's web interface using default models with no personalization, and stores the answers. Because the index exists independently of any customer's setup, you can type in any brand, including a competitor's, and see historical trend data immediately. That is the retroactive superpower no configure-and-wait tracker can offer.
The refresh cadences, straight from Ahrefs' Help Center, are where expectations need calibrating: branded Search Demand updates every few days, Web Visibility (mention crawling) every few minutes, Google AI Overviews every few days, but the AI chatbot indexes update once a month. If a competitor displaces you in ChatGPT answers on the 3rd, the index may not show it until next month. The complement is Custom AI Prompt Tracking (launched January 2026): you define prompts, pick platforms, locations, and a daily-to-monthly schedule, and pay per check, where one check equals one prompt on one LLM in one location.
One more methodological caveat: prompts derived from Google search behavior are not always how people phrase chatbot conversations. Ahrefs itself acknowledged the gap in May 2026 by moving its AI Overviews and AI Mode indexes to prompt-based collection, described in its own words as closer to how people actually prompt these tools.
What Brand Radar really costs: three scenarios
Scenario 1, the cheapest useful setup: you already pay for Ahrefs Standard ($249/mo) and add the AI Overviews + AI Mode index at $199/mo. Total: $448/mo, and you get the Google-side AI story with a refresh every few days. This is the configuration that makes the most sense for teams whose AI traffic question is mostly about Google's AI surfaces.
Scenario 2, full research coverage: a Lite base plan ($129/mo) plus the all-indexes bundle ($699/mo, includes 2,500 custom prompt checks). Total: $828/mo, which matches the low end of third-party all-in estimates. You now see all seven surfaces, but the chatbot data still refreshes monthly.
Scenario 3, operational daily tracking: take scenario 2 and actually monitor daily. Ten prompts across six LLMs in three locations is 180 checks a day, which exhausts the bundled 2,500 checks in under two weeks. Add the Scale prompt package ($250/mo for 25,000 checks) and the total lands around $1,079 to $1,199/mo depending on base plan. That is the honest comparison point against dedicated platforms that include daily tracking in their sticker price.
Brand Radar's release timeline
March 2025: launches in beta, free on all paid Ahrefs plans. June 2025: exits beta; ChatGPT and Perplexity mention indexes arrive, and the AI indexes become paid add-ons at $99/mo each. August 2025: the 'Brand Radar 2.0' redesign lands (Site Explorer-style reports, Cited Domains and Cited Pages, multi-brand share of voice, exports), Google AI Mode joins bundled with AI Overviews, and per-index pricing moves to $199/mo.
September 2025: entity grouping, topics, saved reports, and the first API endpoint. December 2025: YouTube, TikTok, and Reddit indexes launch in beta, free to paid customers during the beta with paid add-ons signaled after. January 2026: Custom AI Prompt Tracking launches, purchasable standalone. April 2026: Grok index added, plus a Looker Studio connector and expanded API. May 2026: prompt-based AI Overviews and AI Mode indexes replace the old keyword-based approach, and Cited Pages gains bot-visit and AI-traffic columns. The cadence is real: this is a heavily invested product line, not a side feature.
Who should buy Brand Radar, and who should not
Buy it if you are already an Ahrefs customer and want AI visibility layered onto the SEO workflow you live in, especially if Google AI Overviews and AI Mode are your primary battleground (those indexes refresh fastest and derive from real search demand). It is also the best tool anywhere for one-off competitive research: because the index is retroactive and any-brand, an analyst can benchmark an entire market's AI visibility in an afternoon with zero setup.
Skip it if you need daily chatbot-level monitoring without stacking add-ons, if you run an agency and need multi-client tracking and reporting (it is a single-workspace research tool), or if measurement alone does not move your program. Brand Radar counts citations; it does not tell you what to do next, write the content, or verify the fix worked. Teams that need the loop closed pair it with, or replace it with, a platform built around action: that is the gap Meev's action plan, quality-gated publishing, and citation outreach are designed to fill.
Strengths and limitations
Where Ahrefs Brand Radar is strong
- ✓Instant, retroactive, any-brand lookups against a 400M+ prompt index, with historical trends and no cold start. Nothing else in the category can do this.
- ✓Prompts are search-backed, derived from real Google demand rather than synthetic prompt lists.
- ✓Deep integration with the Ahrefs stack: Keywords Explorer topics, bot analytics, API, Looker Studio.
- ✓Breadth beyond AI answers: branded search demand, linked and unlinked web mentions, and beta indexes for YouTube, TikTok, and Reddit in the same tool.
Where it falls short
- ✕Chatbot indexes (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Grok) refresh once a month per Ahrefs' own documentation; daily monitoring means buying custom prompt checks on top.
- ✕The prompt base derives from Google People Also Ask questions, which is not how people phrase chatbot conversations; Ahrefs itself moved its AI Overviews and AI Mode indexes to prompt-based collection in May 2026 for this reason.
- ✕Measurement only: no recommendations, no sentiment analysis, and no content or optimization loop.
- ✕Costs stack: base plan plus per-index add-on plus prompt checks. A daily schedule of 10 prompts across 6 engines and 3 locations exhausts the bundled 2,500 checks in under two weeks.
- ✕Claude costs 8 checks per query, DeepSeek and Meta AI are not covered, and Grok collection was paused as of July 2026 per the Help Center.
- ✕A single-workspace research tool, not built for multi-client agency tracking and reporting.

Verdict
For existing Ahrefs customers, Brand Radar is an easy add: the retroactive index makes competitive research instant, and for benchmarking any market's AI visibility it is the best tool available. If your main question is 'where does my category stand in AI Overviews', it answers that faster than anything else.
As the operating system for your own AI visibility program, it is thinner: monthly chatbot snapshots, no action plan, and nothing that writes or publishes the fixes. A dedicated platform like Meev tracks every major AI surface daily alongside Google rankings, turns gaps into a prioritized plan, and publishes quality-gated content that earns the citations Brand Radar can only count.
Frequently asked questions about Ahrefs Brand Radar
What is Ahrefs Brand Radar?⌄
Brand Radar is Ahrefs' AI visibility add-on. It maintains a 400M+ index of search-backed prompts run across seven AI surfaces (Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, and Grok) so you can look up how any brand appears in AI answers, instantly and retroactively, with metrics like mentions, citations, and AI share of voice.
How much does Ahrefs Brand Radar cost?⌄
Brand Radar is a paid add-on on top of a base Ahrefs plan ($29 to $1,499/mo). Each AI index costs $199/mo, or $699/mo for all indexes including 2,500 custom prompt checks. Custom prompt packages run $50 to $250/mo. Third-party estimates put typical all-in cost at roughly $830 to $1,150/mo. Verified July 2026.
Which AI platforms does Brand Radar track?⌄
Seven native indexes: Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Grok. Claude is only available through custom prompts at 8 checks per query, and DeepSeek and Meta AI are not covered.
How often does Brand Radar data update?⌄
Per Ahrefs' Help Center: AI Overviews refresh every few days, but the AI chatbot indexes (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Grok) refresh once monthly. Daily monitoring requires paid custom prompt checks on a schedule you define.
Is Brand Radar enough for AI visibility, or do I need something else?⌄
It depends on the job. For research and benchmarking, Brand Radar's retroactive index is unmatched. For running your own AI visibility program, most teams want daily tracking, a prioritized action plan, and content that closes the gaps, which is what a full-loop platform like Meev provides from $49/mo alongside classic Google rank tracking.
Does Brand Radar track Claude?⌄
Not as a native index. Claude is only available through custom prompt tracking, where each Claude query consumes 8 checks (versus 1 for other platforms), because Ahrefs runs it via API with web search. DeepSeek and Meta AI are not covered at all.
Is Brand Radar included in any Ahrefs plan?⌄
No. Every Ahrefs paid plan can add it, but the AI indexes are always a paid add-on: $199/mo per index or $699/mo for all of them. Related non-AI features have plan gates too: Search Demand requires Starter or higher and Web Visibility requires Standard or higher.
When did Ahrefs launch Brand Radar?⌄
It launched in beta in March 2025, free on paid plans, and exited beta in June 2025, when the AI indexes became paid add-ons at $99/mo (raised to $199/mo with the August 2025 'Brand Radar 2.0' release). Grok coverage, custom prompt tracking, and the YouTube/TikTok/Reddit indexes all followed between December 2025 and April 2026.
